Chasing Your Dreams

(Gossard, James) 2015 introduction Seedling # C191

(Patrick Starfish) x (Emerald Starburst)

Diploid 42" Early Mid season Dormant, Nocturnal fr 7" 4-5 way branching 16-22 buds. Fertile both ways. Rebloomer. Very good rust resistance. Northern Hardy.

Flowers of Chasing Your Dreams are dark maroon purple with a feathered purple violet eye zone with a very large green throat Chasing your Dreams is my number one daylily of this cross. Chasing your Dreams and Stargirl were the roundest of all the sibs. Both can be pushed to the round or narrow forms. For many years I disliked nocturnal daylilies because they start opening the night before and lose color by noon and close up by late afternoon. Living in the north we have cold nights, 50 degrees F sometimes. As a result flowers open poorly, the pattern daylilies seem to be the worst. I wanted a daylily that was perfect in the mornings after a cold night but yet take the high heat and still look good at 8 PM. Everyone said could not be done. However with this new line from Patrick Starfish and Emerald Starburst I got what I was looking for. Chasing your Dreams, Moneymaker, Batgirl and Stargirl are the first of many future generations which corrects for this problem in the north. Soon we will have broken patterns around the edges as a result of the eye zone becoming the edge, which can be the patterned part of the daylily. Zebra Power crossed to these are a good starting point. Because the substance and color saturation is so good in Chasing your dreams and Stargirl, it takes a very good broken pattern breeder to give you want you want. A super good parent for hybridizing large patterned daylilies. Chasing Your Dreams is super pod fertile. Pollen is great to, but you can set so many pods why even use the pollen. LoL This is a very important daylily for the hybridizer. A super good daylily for the garden as well......$150 single fan.

Chasing Your Dreams and Money Maker has also been a great parent to cross with tetraploids. Crossing known tetraploids to Chasing Your Dreams and Money Maker has produced viable seed. Almost all crosses require embryo culture but I been successful bypassing this method. This seed produced is triploid. Triploids are usually sterile, but converting to hexaploid regains fertility. Such hexaploids can be crossed back with dips and tets. Flower size is greatly increased. Time will tell the out come. I am speaking at winter 2015 region 2 and 2015 national on this method.
